Introduction

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is the coaster that broke the usual Universal Studios Hollywood playbook: Universal Express does not work on it. This guide sorts every claim into one of three buckets: Universal's own pages (each tagged with the date I read it, October 12, 2026), our ride data (numbers from our rides table), and my opinion. My firsthand verdict on the ride is still pending.

On naming: Universal calls its skip-the-line product Universal Express, which a lot of people know as Express Pass. I use Universal's name from here on. For the park around this ride, start with Universal Studios Hollywood.

Does Universal Express work on Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift?

No. Per Universal's Tickets FAQ, read October 12, 2026, Universal Express gives one-time-per-day express access to each ride, with Hollywood Drift named as the exclusion. It is the only ride Universal names as excluded on that page.

The exclusion is written into both versions of the product. The standard Universal Express ticket (1-Day General Admission plus express access) and the Universal Express Add-On (no Park admission) both list Hollywood Drift as excluded, per the same FAQ page, read October 12, 2026. Your lines for this ride are standby and single rider. My Universal Express guide covers what Universal Express does cover.

How tall do you need to be to ride Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift?

You need to be at least 51 inches (129.5 cm), per Universal's ride page, read October 12, 2026. In our ride data that is the strictest height requirement at the park: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Revenge of the Mummy are both 48 inches (122 cm).

Universal's ride page also lists a test seat as available (read October 12, 2026), so measure up and check fit before you commit to the line.

Is there a single rider line at Hollywood Drift?

Yes. Universal's ride page lists Single Rider Available and Child Swap Available for Hollywood Drift, read October 12, 2026. Nothing I read says how much time single rider saves on a given day, so I won't promise one. Single rider splits your group up, so use it only if everyone is fine riding apart.

Is there a paid add-on for Hollywood Drift?

Yes, but only for Halloween Horror Nights. Universal lists a Halloween Horror Nights Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift Access Add-On from $24.95 per person per Universal's Hollywood Drift Access Add-On page, read October 12, 2026; prices vary by day. For a regular day ticket the answer is different: Universal Express does not work on Hollywood Drift, per Universal's Tickets FAQ, read October 12, 2026.

Per the same add-on page, read October 12, 2026:

  • It is one-time (per day) access to Hollywood Drift, only during the Halloween Horror Nights event, valid on your selected date only.

  • Drift operating hours are 7pm to 10pm, subject to change, and the event begins at 7:00 p.m., subject to change.

  • It is not valid for HHN admission, which must be purchased separately for the same date.

  • It does not include daytime park admission or early event access.

  • The height requirement is 51 inches (129.5 cm).

Universal also lists Limited Access to Hollywood Drift in its R.I.P. Tour packages. The add-on is not mentioned on Universal's ride page or Tickets FAQ (both read October 12, 2026); it is on Universal's ticket store. My Halloween Horror Nights guide covers event-night planning.

Is Hollywood Drift worth the wait?

In my opinion, yes if you want a real coaster, though I haven't ridden it, so that is a read of the specs, not a verdict. Our ride data average standby wait is 75 minutes, the longest of any USH ride in our data. It is an average from our rides table, not a live number.

That is a 2-minute ride on a 75-minute average wait. Decide before you queue whether a high-intensity coaster is what you came for.

When is the best time to ride Hollywood Drift?

Early. Universal Express can't help you here, so in my opinion the first stretch after the park opens is the best use of standby, and 75 minutes is the number to beat. Check the Universal app for live status as soon as you arrive. If the ride is down, pivot to Revenge of the Mummy or Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge and loop back.

What should I know before riding Hollywood Drift?

  • It is an outdoor launch coaster with high speed, spinning motion and multiple inversions, per our ride data.

  • The 51-inch minimum height is firm, so check kids before you queue.

  • Universal Express doesn't work here, so budget standby time.

Motion Sickness Warning: Our ride data rates the motion-sickness risk as high. In my opinion, if you struggle with spinning coasters, free-spin rides or aggressive launches, treat this one with caution.

Sarah's Take

Sarah's Take: My firsthand verdict on Hollywood Drift is pending, and I won't fake one off a spec sheet. What I can tell you is the planning part: Universal Express doesn't work on it, so budget standby time and be at the gate early. On paper, a 72 mph coaster with a Thrill Factor of 9 is exactly what USH has been missing, in my opinion.
