About this ride
Vehicles rotate 360 degrees, allowing riders to aim at targets on either side of the track. Scoring is based on both accuracy and which targets you hit — smaller, harder-to-reach targets score exponentially more points. The vehicle joystick gives control over rotation. The black-light theming and colorful environments are charming and kid-friendly.
Best time to ride
Midday or early afternoon. Lines rarely exceed 40 minutes and the ride's fast throughput means the queue moves well.
Insider tips
- Aim for the small targets on the robots, not the large obvious ones — small targets score massive bonus points.
- Spin your vehicle to face backward when approaching a high-value target cluster.
- The Z targets (Emperor Zurg's chest symbol) are worth major bonus points.
- Riding multiple times to improve your rank is genuinely fun for competitive families.
Good for
Mateo's Take
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is the ride that turns your family into competitors, and that is either its greatest feature or its greatest flaw depending on your group dynamic. The scoring system is genuinely deep: the obvious large targets score relatively little, while the small hard-to-reach targets buried in awkward angles score massive bonus points. If you learn the system, focusing on the Z targets on Emperor Zurg's chest and looking for small targets on the robots, your score jumps dramatically between rides. For competitive families, this ride creates a replay loop that can eat an hour of your day in the best possible way. For guests who don't care about scores, Buzz is a charming black-light dark ride that the kids will love and adults will find pleasant. Not a must-do priority on a first visit, but a consistent reliable experience worth doing when the wait is under 25 minutes.

Pirates of the Caribbean is the original Disney dark ride masterpiece — the one that set the template for everything that followed. Walt Disney himself oversaw its creation, and it opened in 1967 as the last attraction he personally supervised. You drift through moonlit bayous and into a chaotic port town under siege by buccaneers.

Jungle Cruise is Disneyland's original opening-day comedy boat ride — a live skipper-led river tour past animatronic wildlife where the puns are the point. No height requirement, no Lightning Lane, and one of the best morning rides in Adventureland when paired with Indiana Jones.
