About this ride
Mad Tea Party is one of Disneyland's original Opening Day attractions from 1955, inspired by the Unbirthday Party sequence in Disney's animated film Alice in Wonderland. Riders board one of eighteen colorful teacups, each seating three to five guests, and spin through a two-minute session on a revolving platform with overlapping rotations. The teacup is controlled by a large central wheel — turning it generates outward centrifugal force and dramatically increases spin speed. The platform beneath also rotates independently of individual teacup spin, creating a compound spinning sensation. At night, each teacup is fitted with lighting effects that produce a glowing, lantern-like appearance across the entire carousel. The surrounding Mad Hatter-themed architecture and music make the nighttime version a distinctly more magical experience. The ride has no height requirement, making it accessible to guests of all ages. Motion sickness potential is significant if riders spin aggressively. Otherwise, a gentle experience.
Best time to ride
At night when the lighting makes it especially pretty. Walk-on most of the day.
Insider tips
- Spin the wheel as fast as possible if you want the full experience.
- Do not ride this immediately after eating.
- The ride looks spectacular at night when the teacups are lit up.
What to know before you ride
- Significant dizziness and motion sickness potential if you spin aggressively.
- Gentle if you don't spin the wheel.

Mateo's Take
Mad Tea Party rewards full commitment. The guests who politely nudge the wheel and sit carefully get a gentle, forgettable spin. The guests who turn that wheel as aggressively as possible for the entire two-minute session discover why this ride has been here since 1955. There is a specific spinning euphoria at Mad Tea Party that you simply cannot replicate anywhere else in the park. My strategy: agree on a spinning direction before boarding, get every person in the teacup working the wheel together, and don't stop until the ride does. The nighttime version is meaningfully better than the daytime version. The lighting effects turn the entire carousel into something resembling a magical chandelier, and the darkness amplifies the sensation. That said, if you or anyone in your group has motion sickness sensitivity, skip this entirely. The aggressive version of this ride will ruin your next 90 minutes. Go all in or don't go at all.

Indiana Jones Adventure is the crown jewel of Adventureland — and honestly, one of the best theme park attractions ever built, full stop. You're boarding a troop transport jeep and blasting off into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye alongside Indy himself, dodging booby traps, fire, a giant rolling boulder, and a very unhappy snake. The queue alone is worth 30 minutes of your day.
