About this ride

Jurassic World — The Ride is a complete reimagining of the classic Jurassic Park river adventure, updated for the Jurassic World era with new animatronics, projection mapping, and a dramatically upgraded T. rex encounter. You float through the park's Gyrosphere Valley before the inevitable system failure triggers a chase sequence ending in an 84-foot plunge. The drop is legitimate — one of the tallest flume drops in Southern California — and the soaking is not optional.

Best time to ride

Ride first thing in the morning if the weather is warm enough to dry off during the day. On hot summer days this ride builds massive afternoon lines as guests use it to cool down — that's when the wait spikes hardest. A single rider option can cut significant time off the wait.

Insider tips

  • Rent a locker before you ride — the $5 to $10 spend is worth it to protect your phone, wallet, and shoes from the splash.
  • The back of the boat gets wetter than the front — if you want the soaking, sit back; if you want to stay drier, aim for the front rows.
  • This ride closes during rain and can have extended downtime for technical issues — check the Universal app before walking over.
  • The single rider line moves well here and the ride experience is nearly identical whether you're with a group or not.
  • On cooler days, the poncho rental kiosks near the entrance are a smarter call than showing up soaked for the rest of your park day.
  • The animatronic dinosaurs through the middle section are genuinely well done — slow down your visual scan and take them in instead of bracing for the drop the whole time.

What to know before you ride

  • You will get significantly wet — the splashdown soaks riders from the waist down at minimum.
  • The T. rex finale includes a sudden lunge effect — startling even when you know it's coming.
  • Minimum height: 42 in / 107 cm.
  • The ride can close during rain or high winds.
  • Loose items should be secured or stored in a locker before boarding.

Sarah's Take

Jurassic World — The Ride is the best version of this attraction Universal has ever built and the T. rex finale genuinely delivers. My only knock is that it's a flume ride at heart, which means the thrill ceiling is capped by how much water you can throw at someone. But that 84-foot drop is real and the soaking is spectacular on a hot day. Just accept that you're getting wet and commit to it.
