About this ride
The bobsled coaster winds through dark tunnels, icy caverns, and open outdoor sections where you can see the park below. The Yeti appears multiple times before the splashdown finale. The right track is generally considered the slightly more thrilling. The coaster is rougher than modern attractions, but that's part of its vintage Disney charm.
Best time to ride
Rope drop or Multi Pass. Lower capacity than Indiana Jones or Space Mountain, so lines build quickly.
Insider tips
- The right (Tomorrowland-side) track is slightly more intense.

- Riders in the back of the bobsled feel the bumps more.
- The final splashdown gets you lightly wet.
- Ask a cast member if Harold (the Yeti's nickname) is currently operational.

Mateo's Take
Matterhorn Bobsleds is the attraction that changed the theme park industry. When Disneyland opened this in 1959, it was the first tubular steel roller coaster ever built. Before Matterhorn, roller coasters ran on wooden tracks with rigid rails. The bobsled coaster technology that defines modern theme park rides started here. That history alone makes it worth riding once. The ride itself is still good: winding through dark ice tunnels, catching glimpses of the park through exposed outdoor sections, encountering the Yeti multiple times, and finishing with a water-splashdown finale. It is rougher than modern coasters because the 1959 technology produces more lateral jolts than you would expect. Guests with neck or back sensitivities should pass. Request the right Tomorrowland-side track for the slightly more intense layout. And yes, there is a basketball court inside the mountain. Cast members play on breaks. That is a real fact about a real Disney attraction and I find it wonderful.

View all →Indiana Jones Adventure is the crown jewel of Adventureland — and honestly, one of the best theme park attractions ever built, full stop. You're boarding a troop transport jeep and blasting off into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye alongside Indy himself, dodging booby traps, fire, a giant rolling boulder, and a very unhappy snake. The queue alone is worth 30 minutes of your day.

Space Mountain has been Disneyland's signature indoor coaster since 1977. It tops out around 35 mph, but complete darkness makes every twist feel like you're flying through space with zero warning. The unique single-file seating makes it feel more personal and intense than any other version of the ride.
