About this ride

From the moment you step into the queue — a winding, dimly lit archeological dig site filled with sound effects, working props, and hidden Easter eggs — Indiana Jones Adventure immerses you before you ever board a vehicle. The Enhanced Motion Vehicles (EMVs) simulate off-road conditions with pitching and yawing that makes every ride feel different. Inside the temple, Indy himself appears via a life-size Audio-Animatronic while fire, snakes, and a collapsing ceiling close in around you. The famous boulder scene near the exit still gets gasps from repeat riders.

Best time to ride

Rope drop straight to Indiana Jones — it's your first stop, no exceptions. After the initial wave, use Multi Pass if the wait climbs above 50 minutes.

Insider tips

  • Push the rope in the queue — sometimes it triggers a surprise (keep trying).
  • The vehicle in the back row tends to feel the motion effects most intensely.
  • Look for the warning filmstrip in the queue — it sets up the story and is genuinely funny.
  • There's a map on the ceiling of the queue chamber that shows the full temple layout. Most guests never look up.
  • If you have young children 46"+ who are nervous, sit them in the middle of the vehicle for a slightly milder ride.

What to know before you ride

  • Sudden jolts and simulated off-road movement.
  • Darkness.
  • Loud sound effects including roaring.
  • A giant snake Audio-Animatronic.
  • Fire effects.

Mateo's Take

Indiana Jones Adventure remains one of the most impressive dark rides ever built, and after nearly 30 years it still delivers. The massive queue through Mara's temple is a full experience in itself, with artifacts, hieroglyphs, hidden surprises, and the famous eye that appears to follow you no matter where you stand. The ride vehicle's forced perspective effects, making a single sound stage feel like miles of jungle temple, created an entirely new category of dark ride when it opened in 1995. On a busy day, it runs 40 to 60-minute standby waits from mid-morning onward. Multi Pass is the right call. But if you somehow find yourself at rope drop without a plan, Indiana Jones in the first 15 minutes of the day is still one of the great Disneyland moments. The ride rewards repeat visits because new details appear every time you're in those cars.
